Budapest Chosen to Host 2023 IAAF World Outdoor Championships

The IAAF announced Tuesday that Budapest, Hungary, has been chosen to host the 2023 IAAF World Outdoor Championships.

Budapest hosted the 1989 and 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships and the 1966 and 1998 European Athletics Outdoor Championships. More recently, Budapest hosted the FINA World Swimming Championships and the World Judo Championships in 2017.

A new 15,000-seat stadium will be built on the east bank of the Danube River that can be expanded up to 40,000 seats for championship events. It will primarily serve as a track and field venue.
