Niels de Vos to Head 2021 IAAF World Outdoor Championships Local Organizing Committee

By Adam Kopet

Ken Goe of the Oregonian reports former UK Athletics head Niels de Vos has been named the head of Oregon21, the local organizing committee for the 2021 IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Eugene.

After spending the past 10 years as the head of UK Athletics, Britain's governing body for track and field. He also served as championships director for the 2017 IAAF World Outdoor Championships in London and the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham.

De Vos takes the helm of Oregon21 after Vin Lananna stepped down from his leadership position in July. Kathy Herrmann served as interim executive director following Lananna's departure.

Michael Reilly, who has helped Lananna bring big meets, such as the Olympic Trials, to Eugene, will continue to lead TrackTown USA, which will be responsible for organizing future events, such as the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials.
