IAAF Gets Push-Back from NACAC Over New World Rankings SystemPublished by
NACAC Asks IAAF to Delay Use of New Rankings System Until After 2020By Adam Kopet Trackalerts.com reports the NACAC Council has unanimously voted to request that the IAAF delay the implementation of the new world rankings system for global championship qualifying until after the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. NACAC is made up of North American, Central American and the Caribbean countries, including the United States. Details of the new rankings system were released Friday by the IAAF, as was previously reported. However, how the rankings would affect qualifying for the 2019 IAAF World Outdoor Championships and the 2020 Olympics are not yet clear. The NACAC Council wishes the rankings to be created over the next two years, but not actually used for qualification. That way member federations, athletes and fans will have a chance to learn and understand the new system before it is implemented. More news |
