ASICS UNVEILS EXTENSIVE CONSUMER, PARTNER AND ATHLETE PROGRAMMING FOR

THE  WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS OREGON22

Eugene based events and activations to include ASICS Uplift Oregon 5K, fan festival, Uplift Tour and much more

[JULY 12, 2022 – BOSTON, MA] – As athletics fans from around the world flock to Eugene, Oregon this week for the World Athletics Championships (WCH) Oregon22, ASICS is excited to announce how the brand will activate around the event.

“As an official global partner of World Athletics, ASICS is thrilled that these World Championships are taking place on U.S. soil for the first time ever,” said Richard Sullivan, President and CEO of ASICS North America. “We look forward to showcasing ASICS’ heritage and future innovations in front of a global audience while leaving a lasting legacy in Oregon.”

From July 15-24, ASICS will be hosting the following events and activations.

ASICS Uplift Oregon 5K

On Sunday, July 17, in partnership with the local organizing committee (LOC) for WCH Oregon22, ASICS is excited to host the ASICS Uplift Oregon 5K. This once-in-a-lifetime mass participation race will take place during the men’s marathon event and will provide runners with the opportunity to step foot on the same course, crossing the same start and finish lines as some of the world’s greatest marathoners. Interested participants can still register for the event HERE. The entry fee for the race includes an ASICS Uplift Oregon 5K race T-shirt, bib and finisher medal.

Finish Line Festival

The ASICS Uplift Oregon 5K race will also serve as the start of a two-day fan festival hosted by ASICS. Once Uplift Oregon 5K runners complete the race, they will be ushered into the Finish Line Festival, which will be located just steps from the finish line. The festival is also open to the public during both the men’s and women’s marathons and will feature a big screen viewing experience, interactive recovery stations, and post-race food and beverage options. Fans and onlookers are invited to participate in this unique, social viewing experience.

Agate Street

Each day, as fans enter Hayward Field, they will be met with a celebration on Agate Street. ASICS will have an interactive fan booth featuring giveaways and backdrops for photos and social media opportunities. There will also be a shaded tent area where consumers can create signs for athletes, receive a personal cooling towel made from RPET materials, get temporary tattoos and enter to win exclusive prizes.

Riverfront Festival

ASICS will also have a presence at the Riverfront Festival - a multi-day celebration at the newly renovated Riverfront Park. The festival is designed to help visitors and residents alike share, experience and celebrate Eugene’s community pride during WCH Oregon22.

ASICS Sponsored Athletes & Federations

During WCH Oregon22, ASICS is set to support over 45 athlete ambassadors from around the globe as they compete in various events. From North America, five athletes have qualified as members of Team USA: Valarie Allman (Olympic Gold Medalist - Discus), Emma Bates (Marathon), Sara Hall (Marathon), Johnny Gregorek (1500m) and Elkanah Kibet (Marathon). Globally, ASICS athlete ambassadors include defending World Champion Kelsey-Lee Barber from Australia and Olympic medalist Annouk Vetter from the Netherlands. In addition to individual athletes, ASICS also supports four Federations: the Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL), the Ukrainian Athletics Federation, the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) and the Royal Dutch Athletics Federation.

ASICS Uplift Tour

In the lead up to WCH Oregon22, ASICS set out on a coast-to-coast road trip, making 20+ stops in the customized ASICS Van on the road to Eugene. At each stop, consumers had the opportunity to participate in activities designed to uplift runners and their communities, including group runs and workouts, product demos, giveaways, and much more. The adventure began in New York City on Global Running Day, June 1, and the ASICS Van will arrive in Eugene this week. You can follow the @theasicsvan on Instagram to see where it will be throughout the competition period.

In 2019, ASICS and World Athletics extended their partnership with a new 10-year agreement. As an Official World Athletics Partner, ASICS will be involved in all World Athletics Series events through 2029, including this year’s WCH Oregon22 and next year’s World Athletics Championships Budapest 23.
