The highly-anticipated triple jump clash between Teddy Tamgho and Phillips Idowu will not happen at next month’s World Championships in Daegu after the Frenchman fractured his ankle at last weekend’s European Under-23 Championships. Tamgho’s injury during the qualifying round in Ostrava turned out to be more serious than he initially thought, and the 22-year-old will now be out of action for the rest of the year. His clash with Idowu looked set to be one of the highlights of the World Championships in Daegu. While Britain’s Idowu has been the most consistent championship performer in recent years, Tamgho has produced the bigger jumps, having improved his own world indoor record to 17.92m earlier this year, and leaping a world-leading 17.91m in Lausanne last month.
