IAAF Announces New World Ranking SystemPublished by
IAAF Partnering with All Athletics to Create New IAAF World Ranking SystemBy Adam Kopet The IAAF announced Friday that it is partnering with Elite LTD (All Athletics) to create a new world ranking system for track and field, road running and cross country. A change to how the IAAF selects athletes for the Olympics and World Championships has been discussed for the past two years as part of reforms IAAF President Sebastian Coe introduced in 2016. The new ranking system has not officially been unveiled, however, it will award athletes points for performances throughout the year, partially based on the kind of event the performance is obtained at. The IAAF World Rankings will debut in the first quarter of 2018, but they will not be used for competition qualification until 2019 when the IAAF World Outdoor Championships will take place in Doha, Qatar. |
