Natosha Rogers, a World Athletics Championships finalist competing for the United States in the 10,000 meters and representing Hansons Brooks Original Distance Project, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss participating in the women's 5,000-meter final Aug. 19 at the NACAC Senior Championships in the Bahamas. Rogers, 31, placed 15th overall July 15 in a lifetime-best 31:10.57 in the 10,000 final at the World Championships in Eugene, Ore. She also finished fifth June 26 in the 5,000 final at the USATF Championships at Hayward Field to secure her position on the American roster to compete in the Bahamas, along with sixth-place finisher Fiona O'Keeffe and 10th-place athlete Eleanor Fulton. Rogers revisits the last time she competed outside the U.S. in Scotland in 2018 for the Great Edinburgh XCountry Challenge, as well as representing the Americans in 2017 at the World Cross Country Championships in Uganda. She analyzes the success of the U.S. female athletes in the 5,000 at NACAC, with Whitney McDonald winning in 2007 in El Salvador, Kellyn Taylor capturing gold in 2015 in Costa Rica and Rachel Schneider taking the title in 2018 in a meet-record 15:26.19 in Canada. Rogers, who has run 15:04.95, also examines the benefits of securing the gold in the Bahamas, since it earns her the World Athletics qualifying standard for the 2023 global meet in Hungary. She explains the inspiration gained from several other American female distance runners who are older than 30, including NACAC teammate Stephanie Bruce in the 10,000, along with Sara Hall, Keira D'Amato, Aliphine Tuliamuk, Emily Infeld and Taylor. Rogers revisits the final stretch of her May 27 matchup against Infeld in the USATF 10,000 championship race as part of the Prefontaine Classic at Hayward, and earning the final spot on the podium and the World Championships roster by a 31:29.80 to 31:30.04 margin. She also shares the confidence it has provided in her ability to close races well in the Bahamas and the future. Rogers speaks about competing again Sept. 4 in Berlin in the 5,000 and her ambition for more international races in the future.
