Athletics Canada Officials Say All is Well After Canada Failed to Earn Any World Championship MedalsPublished by
Athletics Canada In Good Place After Failing to Medal at World Championships in LondonBy Adam Kopet According to a CBC report by Paul Gains, Athletics Canada will not be looking to make changes after the team failed to medal at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships last month in London. It was a perfect storm of bad luck for Team Canada in London. Olympic medalists Derek Drouin and Andre De Grasse pulled out of the championships with injury just before they started. Then a bout of norovirus hit the team hotel, including several athletes. Damian Warner, who ended up finishing fifth in the decathlon, was quarantined for 48 hours with the illness before his competition began. In the previous three global championships, including the Rio Olympics, Canada captured 19 total medals. The 2015 World Championships in Beijing produced the highest total of eight. Athletics Canada must put London in the past and begin preparations for the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, England, and the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
