SOLINSKY OUT OF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The American record holder for 10,000m, Chris Solinsky, said he will not be able to compete in the IAAF World Championships in Athletics which open in Daegu, Korea next weekend due to a hamstring injury.

"Yesterday I had to make the hardest decision of my career," Solinsky said through his Twitter feed. "I strained my hamstring again during a speed session."

Solinsky, 26, who was to compete in the 5000m in Daegu, has struggled with hamstring problems all year. He dropped out of the 10,000m at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore., on June 3, citing hamstring difficulties.

"I tried everything to get it ready to be able to compete at Worlds, but it was not responding fast enough," Solinsky also tweeted.

Under USA Track & Field Rules, Solinsky would be replaced by the next highest time-qualified finisher from the USA Outdoor Championships last June, which served as a binding trial to select the team. Ironically, that would be Solinsky's training partner, Andrew Bumbalough, who finished fourth in 13:39.94. Last March in Melbourne, Bumbalough ran 13:16.77, well under the IAAF "A" standard of 13:20.00.

USA Track & Field has not yet officially announced Solinsky's replacement.
