Published by
Alex Rose, the World Athletics Championships bronze medalist, joins DyeStat editor Doug Binder to discuss his historic medal performance in the midst of chaotic circumstances surrounding the men's discus final in Tokyo. Rose, a lifelong Michigan resident who competes for Samoa, overcame rain delays and a wet ring to throw 66.96m (219-8), the farthest in-stadium mark of his life, to place third. He earned the first World Championships medal ever for Samoa and hopes the achievement serves as an inspiration to young athletes from Polynesia that there are additional avenues to sports success besides football and rugby. Rose works as a sales engineer and has a family with two small children but manatges to continue training in th discus with sights on competing at Los Angeles in 2028, which would be his fourth Olympic Games. |
