Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone of the United States lowered her own her American record in the women's 400 meters to 47.78 seconds, setting a championship record to win the world title at the World Athletics Outdoor Championship on Thursday in Tokyo. Her time also is the second-fastest in world history, only trailing Marita Koch's 47.60.
