Jake Wightman, representing Great Britain, won the men's 1,500-meter title in a world-leading 3:29.23 at the World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Wightman became just the second athlete in British history to capture the gold medal, joining Steve Cram, who prevailed in the inaugural World Championships in 1983 in Finland.
