Seminoles To Be Well Represented At World Championships

Aug. 14, 2009

With the completion of the outdoor season just two months past a select number of Florida State track and field athletes will be back in action over the next week as they will be competing in Berlin, Germany in the 2009 IAAF World Championships. Six current Seminoles will be in action, while four former FSU stars will also represent their countries in the biannual event. Action gets under way on Saturday, August 15.

Senior Susan Kuijken will represent her native Netherlands in the 1,500-meter run and she will have a familiar opponent in Hannah England who will represent Great Britain. Kuijken enters with a personal best of 4:05.86, while England holds a top time of 4:04.29.

Williams will represent Jamaica in the triple jump where she holds a top mark of 14.04 meters. She will be in action right away as the qualifying round of the triple jump is set for August 15 at 11 a.m. local time.

On the men's side, Charles Clark and alum Brian Dzingai will both be competing in the 200-meter. Clark is just one of four Americans in the event, while Dzingai will represent Zimbabwe. Elsewhere on the track the Borlee twins will represent Belgium at the World Championships. Kevin Borlee is slated to run the 400-meter and will likely compete with Jonathan in the 4x400-meter relay. Florida State alum, Ricardo Chambers, will be battling Borlee in the 400 as he represents his native Jamaica.

Tom Lancashire will be the first Seminole male in action when he opens competition on Saturday in the 1,500-meter when the heats run at 12:15 p.m. local time. Ngoni Makusha is set to compete in the long jump where he has a top jump of 8.30 meters for Zimbabwe.

NBC and Versus will be providing daily coverage from the event and a live webcast can be found at universalsports.com
