American medal count continues to grow after strong SundayBy Scott Bush, DyeStat Editor It was a busy day Sunday in London, day three of the IAAF World Outdoor Championships. After an exciting morning session, which saw American Amy Cragg earn bronze in the marathon, becoming the first American woman since 1983 to capture a medal in the event at the World Championships, Team USA racked up three more medals on the track and in the field during the evening session. Putting a gold stamp on the day for Team USA, Tori Bowie won a thrilling women's 100-meter contest. After a lackluster start and slow build-up coming out of the blocks, the Olympic silver medalist in Rio charged to the finish, overtaking the entire field and outleaning Marie-Josee Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast in the final stride, winning 10.85-10.86. Watch What Tori Bowie Had to Say After Her Gold Medal Performance Bowie's gold medal performance marked the first time an American had won the women's 100 at the World Championships since Carmelita Jeter in 2011. Her win, along with Justin Gatlin capturing the men's 100 title Saturday, secured the first U.S. sweep at worlds since 2005. Bowie's time was a seasonal best, giving her four 10.90-or-faster marks in 2017 and the fourth straight year she's run 10.85 seconds or faster.
