IAAF World Championships: Amata Gets Outsider Chance in High Jump

Until two months ago, Nigerian high jumper, Doreen Amata-Igbokwe was just another face in the women’s high jump event.

Amata’s Personal Best of 1.95m, which she posted to set the national record in 2008 at best, was only good enough to get her a place in the final of the IAAF World Championships scheduled to begin this Saturday in Daegu, South Korea.

But after overcoming the hassles of having her first child and returning forcefully to the sport early this year, the Delta born lady has become a force. She has not only equalled her record this season, Amata is among the top 10 women high jumpers ahead of the World in Korea.
