EUGENE -- I jetted over to Hayward Field between Oregon football practices today for a track media availability featuring Jesse Williams and Andrew Wheating of the Oregon Track Club, and University of Oregon senior Matthew Centrowitz.
All three are members of Team USA, which will compete in the IAAF World Championships. The meet begins August 27 in Daegu, South Korea.
Williams is the 2011 world leader in the high jump with a mark of 7 feet 9 1/4, and Track & Field News' favorite to win gold.
Wheating and Centrowitz will run the 1,500 meters. Wheating is coming off a right hamstring problem that curtailed his European racing schedule this summer. Centrowitz is competing for the first time at this level.
