Team USA On the Board with Michelle Carter Grabbing Bronze

Two-time Olympian and American record holder Michelle Carter put Team USA on the medal board Saturday morning (in the United States), earning a bronze in the shot put. Carter's bronze performance was her first World Outdoor Championship medal and solidifies the Team USA captain as a big-time medal favorite heading into the 2016 Rio Olympics next summer.

Carter threw 19.22m to win her qualification round. She threw the mark on her first toss, automatically qualifying for the final, thus bypassing her second and third throw, saving her energy for the final.

Carter's final series of six throws saw her launch the shot put 19.45m or further four times, with her bronze medal toss of 19.76m coming on her second throw. While Carter couldn't catch gold medalist Christina Schwanitz (GER) and silver medalist Lijiao Gong (CHN), Carter came away extremely pleased - sharing her enthusiasm with USATF.tv afterward.

20.37m  Christina Schwanitz (GER)
20.30m  Lijiao Gong (CHN)

Farah Grabs Gold, Rupp Fifth in 10,000m

Using his trademark furious dash to the finish, Mo Farah (UK) once again took home gold in a major international competition. Farah held off charges from Kenyas Geoffrey Kamworor and Paul Tanui, winning in a stadium record of 27:01.33. While Farah won by less than a second over Kamworor, he looked in complete control of the race, as the trio of Team Kenya tried their best to strategically beat Farah.

Americans Shines in Men's 100m Heats

Team USA's Tyson Gay, Trayvon Bromell and Justin Gatlin each won their respective heat in the men's 100m, automatically advancing to the semi-final. Teammate Michael Rodgers placed second behind Usain Bolt (JAM) in the seventh and final heat of the day, earning his spot in the semi-final. All four Americans now set their sights on qualifying out of the semi-final for the final.
